How is this tracker compiled?

The Intelligence pipeline queries openFDA’s drug shortages endpoint for the generic names semaglutide, tirzepatide and liraglutide on the schedule set in the Source Registry. Each status update FDA publishes for a package (identified by its NDC) is stored as a separate record, dated with FDA’s update date.

This tracker shows the most recent status for each package and notes when it differs from the previous status recorded. Statuses are FDA’s own wording. Nothing is edited by hand. FDA’s Drug Shortages database (https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/drugshortages/default.cfm) is the authoritative source.

Selection: Official records (drug shortage) from primary sources.

What does it cover?

U.S. federal (FDA). Only the three generic names above; other drugs in shortage are not included. History begins when tracking of this source began.

What are its limitations?

openFDA data can lag FDA’s Drug Shortages database, and each check returns a limited number of records, so a recent change may appear late. A package that FDA removes from its data keeps its last recorded status here. The status is FDA’s, not an assessment of supply in any market. Not medical or legal advice.

How often is it updated?

Checked about every 6 hours, as configured in the Source Registry.

System checked is the last time an automated check of the underlying official sources succeeded — it is not a human review. Editorially reviewed appears only when an editor has reviewed this tracker. Each row shows its own check: an automated system check or an editor’s verification.

Data origin: NPHLA analysis of public data. Professional reference only — not medical, legal or regulatory advice. Always confirm a record in its primary source. Spotted an error? Tell us.
